Wooden Toys
For a small child, a fine toy or an attractive doll is all that matters, and that is understandable as children and infants are quite playful. Research has shown that they need such playful activities to enhance their cognitive development and stimulate their creativity. However, when toys are being mentioned, it is very easy to think of plastic toys. This is also understandable considering the fact that popular toy brands like Lego and Fisher-Price are made of plastic. However, there is a special class of toys, which are not made of plastic, and these are the wooden toys.
Specialties of wooden toys
Wooden toys are very different from the plastic ones in many respects. This is in addition to the fact that they also have numerous advantages over the plastic-inspired ones. One very glaring one is the fact that there is no danger of children suffering from lead poisoning. This is what has been reported in cases where children chew on lead-based paint used on plastic toys. With the wooden toys, this fear is eliminated. When one considers the fact that toy companies routinely recall millions of plastic toys because of cases of chemical poisoning, wooden toys are better appreciated.
One other benefit of wooden toys is that it helps to stimulate the child’s interest in nature. Since children are very curious, they will want to know everything about wood that was used in making their toys. In addition, wooden toys are very durable, even lasting longer than plastic toys in many cases, and they are also very easy to repair compared with the plastic ones, which tend to be more fragile to handle in addition to being more expensive.
